Northern right whale

The female northern right whale unlike many other species is bigger than the male, the female grow up to 17 meters long and can weigh up to 100 tones. The Northern Right Whales has raised patches of skin called callosities on the head, snout and lips. These rough pale patches come in many colours varying from white to pink which stand out because the rest of their skin is black or dark grey. Female Northern right whales give birth about once every three years, their young are roughly 4.6 meters long.

The northern right whale is considered to be the best whale to hunt because when they die they float. They are a very slow whale and like to come close to the shore. Whalers have brought them to the edge of extinction and their are only 200-300 left in the ocean.
